Gram-positive rods, 0.9 x 1.5-5.0 µm, occurring singly, in pairs and in short chains.
Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are smooth, beige, 1.0 mm in diameter after 24 h of aerobic incubation at 37
ºC on MRS agar. Grows at 15 ºC, optimum at 37 ºC, but not at 45 ºC. Can grow in 6%
NaCl. Facultative anaerobic.
Isolated from wheat and cheese.

Positive results for arginine deamination, fermentation of L-arabinose, D-arabitol, D-fructose, glucose (with gas production),
gluconate (with gas production), maltose, ribose, D-xylose, N-acetylglucosamine, and methyl beta-D-xylopyranoside.
Negative results for catalase, fermentation of adonitol, amygdalin, D-arabinose, L-arabitol, arbutin, cellobiose, dulcitol, erythritol,
esculin, L- and D-fucose, gentiobiose, 2- and 5-ketogluconate, glycerol, glycogen, inositol, inulin, D-lyxose, mannitol, melezitose,
melibiose, mannose, methyl alpha-D-mannopyranoside, methyl alpha-D-xyloside, raffinose, rhamnose, sorbitol, L-sorbose, starch,
salicin, sucrose, D-tagatose, trehalose, turanose, xylitol, and L-xylose.
