Gram-positive rods, 0.8 / 2.0-2.5 µm. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are creamy-white, convex, smooth and 1 mm in diameter after 2 days of
aerobic incubation at 37 ºC on MRS agar. Non-haemolytic. Grows at: 10-50 ºC (37 ºC
optimum), pH 3.5-10 (pH 7.0 optimum), 0-8% NaCl. Facultative anaerobic.
Isolated from an Austrian grass silage.

arbutin, D- and L-arabinose, L-arabitol, cellobiose, L- fucose,  D-fructose, galactose, gentiobiose, glucose (without gas production),
gluconate, inositol,  lactose, mannitol, mannose, melezitose, N-acetylglucosamine, rhamnose, ribose, salicin, sorbitol, sucrose,
D-tagatose and trehalose.

Negative results for alkaline phosphatase, cystine arylamidase, alpha-fucosidase, alpha-glucosidase, beta-glucuronidase,
N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, indole production, H
2S production, lipase (C14), alpha-mannosidase, nitrate reduction, urease,
trypsin, alpha-chymotrypsin, fermentation of: D-arabitol, dulcitol, erythritol, D-fucose, 2- and 5-ketogluconate, glycerol, glycogen, inulin,
