Gram-positive small, elliptical (central swellings may occur), rods, occurring singly, in
pairs and in short chains. Non-motile.
Colonies are raised or low convex, translucent to transparent, 1-2 mm in diameter
after 5 days of anaerobic incubation at 37 ºC on BH blood agar. Growth is stimulated
by 0.02% Tween 80 and usually is stimulated by 10% rabbit serum. Variable growth at
45 ºC. Optimum growth at 37 ºC. No growth in 6.5% NaCl. Strict anaerobic.
Isolated from human gingival crevices, especially in patients with periodontitis.
