Gram-positive rods, 0.6-0.8/3.5-4.0 µm, occurring singly, in pairs or chains. Non-motile.
Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are opaque, greyish white, smooth, 1.0-2.0 mm in diameter after 2 days of
incubation on MRS agar. Can grow at 45 ºC. No growth at 4 ºC. Grows 0-6% NaCl.
Facultative anaerobic.
Isolated from a fermented beverage, China.

Positive results for fermentation of amygdalin, arbutin, D- and L-arabinose, cellobiose, erythritol, esculin, D-fructose, galactose,
gentiobiose, glucose (without gas production), gluconate, 2-ketogluconate, glycerol, inulin, lactose, maltose, mannose, melezitose,
melibiose, methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside, methyl alpha-D-mannopyranoside, raffinose, rhamnose, ribose, salicin, starch, sucrose,
trehalose, turanose, and N-acetylglucosamine.
Negative results for catalase, fermentation of: adonitol, D- and L-arabitol, dulcitol, D- and L-fucose, 5-ketogluconate, glycogen,
inositol, D-lyxose, mannitol, methyl alpha-D-xyloside, sorbitol, L-sorbose, D-tagatose, methyl beta-D-xylopyranoside, xylitol, D- and
L-xylose.
