Homotypic synonym: Liquorilactobacillus sucicola (Irisawa and Okada 2009) Zheng et al. 2020.
Gram-positive rods (1.0 x 2.0–3.0 μm) occurring singly or in pairs. Motile by peritrichous
flagella.
Colonies on MRS agar are white, smooth, and 2 mm in diameter after incubation for
3-4 days at 30 ºC. Facultatively anaerobic. Can grow at 15 and 45 ºC, but not at 10 or
50 ºC. No growth in 5% NaCl medium.
Isolated from sap obtained from two different oak trees (Quercus sp.) on Awashima Island, Kagawa Prefecture, Japan.

Obligately homofermentative.
Positive results for fermentation of: D-fructose, galactose, D-glucose (lactic acid is produced as the main end product, no gas
production), mannitol, D-mannose, melibiose, salicin, sorbitol, sucrose (dextran is produced), and trehalose.
Negative results for catalase, fermentation of: L-arabinose, cellobiose, gluconate, lactose, melezitose, rhamnose, starch, and
D-xylose.
Variable results for maltose and raffinose fermentation.
