Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive cocco-bacilli, 0.8-1.5 x 2.4 µm. Non-motile.
Colonies on TS agar plates after 2 days of incubation at 30 ºC under anaerobic
conditions are 1-2 mm in diameter, white to ivory, circular, entire, smooth
and opaque. Growth occurs at 10-40 ºC, at pH 5-8 and at NaCl concentrations of up to
4% (w/v). Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from the gut of the wood-feeding subterranean termite Reticulitermes speratus.

Positive results for chymotrypsin, beta-glucosidase and starch hydrolysis.
Acid is produced from: amygdalin (weakly), arbutin, cellobiose, D-fructose, D-galactose, D-glucose, glycogen, gentiobiose, maltose,
D-mannose, salicin, D-sorbitol (weakly), pectin, starch, trehalose, D-tagatose and xylan (weakly).
Negative results for alkaline phosphatase, catalase, casein hydrolysis, esterase lipase, alpha- and beta-galactosidase,
alpha-glucosidase, oxidase, valine arylamidase, acid production from: L-arabinose, glycerol, inulin, lactose, melibiose, D-mannitol,
melezitose, methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside, raffinose, D-ribose, sucrose, turanose and D-xylose.
