Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive cocci, 1.2–2.2 µm, not showing a rod-coccus cycle. Non-motile. Non-
spore-forming.
Colonies on Marine Agar are circular, convex with an entire margin and dark pink with
a diameter of 0.1-0.15 mm after 72 hours of incubation at 20 ºC. Growth occurs
at 10-25 ºC (optimally at 20 ºC), at pH 6-9 (optimally at pH 7) and in the presence of
0-8 % (w/v) NaCl (optimally in 1% NaCl). Strictly aerobic.
Isolated from the gut of purple sea urchin Heliocidaris crassispina collected from the coastal waters of the Korean island Dokdo.

Can utilize (Biolog GP2) dextrin, Tween 80, D-fructose, cellobiose, D-gluconic acid, alpha-D-glucose, maltose, maltotriose,
D-mannose, palatinose, sucrose, turanose, acetic acid, gamma-hydroxybutyric acid, alpha-ketoglutaric acid, lactamide, monomethyl
succinate, propionic acid, pyruvic acid, succinamic acid, N-acetyl-L-glutamic acid, glycerol, adenosine, inosine, uridine and
adenosine-5'-monophosphate.
Negative results for alkaline phosphatase, arginine dyhydrolase, alpha-chymotrypsin, cystine arylamidase, alpha-fucosidase, gelatin
hydrolysis, alpha- and beta-galactosidase, beta-glucosidase, beta-glucuronidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, indole production,
lipase (C14), alpha-mannosidase, oxidase, and fermentation of glucose.
No utilization of Tween 40, D-mannitol, D-sorbitol, D-psicose, p-hydroxyphenylacetic acid, pyruvatic acid methyl ester, L-alaninamide,
