Gram-positive cells, spherical or rod-shaped, showing a rod-coccus growth cycle,  0.6
µm in diameter and 1.3 µm in length, grouped in clumps and chains. Motile.  
Non-capsulated. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on dimethylsulfone agar medium are creamy-yellow, circular-convex, 1.0-1.3
mm in diameter. Growth occurs at 4-30 ºC, optimally at 25 ºC. Grows in the presence
of 1.5% (w/v) NaCl or 2.5% NaCl (weakly), but not with 5% NaCl. Optimum pH for
growth is 7.2-7.5. Aerobic. Ammonium chloride, nitrate, methylamine and EDTA are
used as nitrogen sources for growth. Does not grow with methanesulfonate or
autotrophically on inorganic sulfur compounds.
Isolated from soil from the root system of Tagetes minuta.

Positive results for catalase and oxidase.
Can utilize for growth glucose, fructose, sucrose, galactose, acetate, ethanol, pyruvate, malate, succinate, citrate, serine, alanine,
taurine and yeast extract, alkanesulfonates (propane-, butane-, pentane- and hexane-sulfonate), diethylsulfone, methylated sulfur
compounds (dimethylsulfone, dimethylsulfoxide, dimethylsulfide), methanol, methylamine, trimethylamine and formaldehyde.

Negative results for nitrate reduction.
