pityocampae Ince et al. 2014.
Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive cells, 0.82 µm in diameter, showing a rod-coccus cycle. Non-motile.
Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on TSA are small, less than 1 mm, red, round with entire margins, smooth
and bright after 48 h at 30 ºC. The red pigment is water-insoluble. Sediment
is formed in nutrient broth. Growth occurs at 25-35 ºC (optimally at 30 ºC), at pH
6.5-10 (optimally at pH 7) and in the presence of 0-3 % (w/v) NaCl (not 5% NaCl).
Aerobic.
Isolated from a caterpillar of the pine processionary moth, Thaumetopoea pityocampa (Den. & Schiff.) (Lepidoptera: Thaumetopoeidae),
a destructive pine forest pest.
Undetermined.
