Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive, coccoid or oval cells, about 1.0-1.5 µm in diameter, occurring singly or
in clusters. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming. Rod-coccus cell cycle not present.
Colonies are circular and orange (0.4-3.0 mm in diameter) on TSA. Grows at 15-37 ºC
(optimum 30 ºC) and pH 5.2-11.0 (optimum pH 7.5).
Isolated from a soil sample from a coal mine. Sensitive to ampicillin (10 µg), chloramphenicol (10 µg), chlortetracycline (30 µg),
ciprofloxacin (5 µg), gentamicin (10 µg), nalidixic acid (30 µg), neomycin (30 µg), novobiocin (30 µg), oleandomycin (30 µg), rifampicin
(5 µg), streptomycin (25 µg) and tetracycline (30 µg). Resistant to cephaloridine (30 µg), furazolidone (50 µg), tobramycin (10 µg) and
trimethoprim (5 µg).

L-serine, 2,3-butanediol, inosine, thymidine, D-fructose 6-phosphate and D-glucose 6-phosphae.
Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, acid and alkaline phosphatase, citrate utilization, esculin hydrolysis, gelatin hydrolysis,
beta-galactosidase, alpha-glucosidase H2S production, indole production, leucine arylamidase, methyl red test, nitrate reduction,
oxidase, urease, Voges-Proskauer tests, acid production from glucose (API 20 NE), arabinose, adonitol, cellobiose, dulcitol, fructose,
galactose, inositol, inulin, lactose, maltose, mannose, mannitol, melibiose, rhamnose, salicin, sorbitol, raffinose, trehalose, sucrose
or xylose.
No utilization of arabinose, glucose, maltose, mannose, mannitol, N-acetyl-glucosamine, trisodium citrate, potassium gluconate,
adipic acid, capric acid, malic acid and phenylacetic acid.
