Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive cocci. Nonmotile. Endospores are not formed. Nonlipophilic.
Colonies are 1-2 mm in diameter, convex with entire margin, circular shape, the
surface is smooth and shiny, pale orange color, gamma-hemolytic, and non-viscous.
Optimum growth can be observed at 35 ºC (range 25-40 ºC), 2% NaCl (range 0-15%
NaCl), and pH 7-8 (range 4-9). Aerobic.
Isolated from the uropygial gland of a live woodpecker (Dendrocopos major) in Gimbsheim, Germany.

Positive results for acid phosphatase, catalase, esterase, esterase lipase, gelatin hydrolysis, beta-glucosidase, leucine arylamidase
and naphtolphosphohydrolase.
Can assimilate of arabinose, mannose, mannitol, maltose, malic acid and trisodium citrate.
Negative results for alkaline phosphatase, arginine dihydrolase, esculin hydrolysis, alpha-fucosidase, alpha- and
beta-galactosidase, beta-glucuronidase, beta-glucosidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosamidase, indole production, lipase,
alpha-mannosidase, nitrate reduction, oxidase, urease, cystine arylamidase, trypsin, chymotrypsin and acid production from glucose.
No assimilation of potassium gluconate, phenylacetic acid, N-acetylglucosamine and capric acid.
