Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive, coccoid cells, 0.9-1.10.7 µm. Non-spore-forming. Non-motile.
Colonies are cream, circular, convex and waxy. Grows well on TSA and LB agar, but
no growth is observed on nutrient medium. Grows at 4-50 ºC (optimally at 20-27 ºC),
pH 7-11 (optimally at pH 9-10) and in 1-8% (w/v) NaCl (optimally 1-2%).
Isolated from faeces of a porcupine, Hystrix indica, from the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden, Hungary.

Positive results for acid phosphatase, catalase, esterase (C4), esterase lipase (C8), indole production, leucine arylamidase,
naphthol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase, oxidase, starch hydrolysis, trypsin, acid production from glucose (API 20 NE).
Assimilates phenylacetate.
Negative results for alkaline phosphatase, esculin hydrolysis, gelatin hydrolysis, alpha-glucosidase, and valine arylamidase.
No API 50 CH components are fermented (negative for all tests).
No assimilation of D-glucose, D-mannose, D-mannitol, N-acetyl-glucosamine, maltose, ketogluconate, adipic acid, malic acid, and
trisodium citrate.
