Gram-positive, short rods, 0.7 x 1.2 µm. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Non-encapsulated.
Mesophilic, alkaliphilic and moderately halophilic. Weak beta-haemolysis after 72h
incubation. Growth occurs at 25-40 ºC (optimum 30-37 ºC), pH 7.0-17.0 (optimum pH
9.0) and in media containing 3-12% NaCl (optimum 3%). Strictly aerobic.
Isolated from a soiled feather sample collected at the shore of Lake Abjata, Ethiopia.

Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, alpha-fucosidase, indole production, H2S production, lipase C14, lysine decarboxylase, alpha-

lactose, D-mannitol, trehalose, and D-xylose.
