Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive, short rods, 0.4-0.5 x 1.2-1.4 µm. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies after 24 h incubation at 40 ºC on LB medium, are smooth, circular, opaque
and yellow in colour and 1.0-1.5 mm in diameter. Optimum temperature for growth is
40-42 ºC and the optimal pH is 9.0-10.0. Growth occurs in the presence of 0-10 %
NaCl.
Isolated from paper-mill effluent in Wuhan, China.

Positive results for acid and alkaline phosphatase, catalase, gelatin hydrolysis, alpha-glucosidase, leucine arylamidase, starch
hydrolysis, Tween 80 hydrolysis, valine arylamidase, acid production from L-arabinose, fructose, D-glucose, maltose, L-rhamnose
and sucrose.
Can utilize glucose, arabinose, cellulose, fructose, mannose, sucrose and maltose.
Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, citrate utilization, alpha-fucosidase, H2S production, indole production, lipase C14, lysine
decarboxylase, methyl red test, nitrate reduction alpha-mannosidase, nitrate reduction, ONPG, ornithine decarboxylase, oxidase,
tyrosine hydrolysis, trypsin, urease, acid production from D-galactose, lactose, mannose, mannitol, trehalose, and D-xylose.
No utilization of trehalose and xylose.
Variable or contradictory results for beta-galactosidase, Voges-Proskauer reaction and mannose fermentation.
