Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive short rods with a mean size of 0.8-1.2 µm; sometimes branching is
observed. In older cultures, cocci predominate. Non-motile. Poly-beta-hydroxybutyrate
granules are not produced.
Colonies show a bright yellow pigmentation. Thiamin.HCl is required, and nicotinic
acid and biotin stimulate growth. The optimal temperature for growth is 27–33.5 °C,
and the optimal pH is 8.6. NaCl tolerance for growth is 0-15%. Aerobic.
Isolated from hypersaline Ekho Lake (Vestfold Hills, East Antarctica).
