Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive coccoid cells, 0.67 x 1.4 µm. Motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are dark yellow and 1 mm in diameter. Grows at 20-45 ºC (optimum 37 ºC),
and in the presence of 0-3% (w/v) NaCl. Aerobic. Weak microaerophilic growth. No
anaerobic growth.
The habitat of the microorganism is the human digestive tract. Isolated from the fecal flora of a 32-year-old French female suffering
from AIDS.
Susceptible to amoxicillin, imipenem, rifampin, ciprofloxacin, gentamicin, doxycycline and vancomycin. Resistant to trimethoprim +
sulfamethoxazole and metronidazole.

Positive results for catalase, acid production (API 50CH) from D-fructose, mannose, mannitol, L-rhamnose, ribose, and
D-saccharose.
Can utilize as sole carbon source glucose, arabinose, mannose, mannitol, N-acetyl-glucosamine, maltose, gluconate, caprate,
adipate, malate, citrate, and phenylacetate.
Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, esculin hydrolysis, beta-galactosidase, gelatin hydrolysis, indole production, H2S
production, nitrate reduction, oxidase, starch hydrolysis, urease, acid production from L-arabinose, D-cellobiose, esculin,
gentiobiose, mannose, D-lactose, D-galactose, salicin, turanose, and D-xylose.
Contradictory results for glucose and trehalose fermentation.
