Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive rods, 0.4-0.5 x 0.7-1.0 µm. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on Marine Agar are 1 mm in diameter, opaque, smooth, circular with regular
margins, convex and dark salmon in colour after 6 days incubation at 30 °C. Growth
occurs in 0-10% (w/v) NaCl (optimum 1-4%), at pH 7-12 (optimum pH 9-10) and at
4-40 °C (30-35 °C). Aerobic.
Isolated from deep-sea sediment of the Southern Atlantic Ocean.

Positive results for acid (weak) and alkaline phosphatase, catalase, cystine arylamidase (weak), esterase (C4), esterase lipase (C8),
esculin hydrolysis, gelatin hydrolysis, leucine arylamidase, alpha-chymotrypsin, naphthol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase, and valine
arylamidase (weak).

Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, casein hydrolysis, cellulose hydrolysis, alpha- and beta-galactosidase, beta-glucuronidase,
alpha- and beta-glucosidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, H
2S production, indole production, lipase (C14), methyl red test,
melanin production, alpha-mannosidase, nitrate reduction, oxidase, starch hydrolysis, trypsin, Voges-Proskauer reaction, and
glucose fermentation.
No utilization of arabinose, adipate, caprate, citrate, glucose, gluconate, malate, maltose, mannose, mannitol, N-acetylglucosamine,
and phenylacetate.
