Arthrobacter kerguelensis Gupta et al. 2004.
Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive rods, showing a rod-coccus cycle. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Psychrotolerant; growth occurs at 4-30 ºC, with optimum at 22 ºC. Grows in the
presence of 6% (w/v) NaCl and pH 7. Aerobic. Colonies are yellow-pigmented. The
yellow pigment is insoluble in water but soluble in methanol.
Isolated from sea water from Kerguelen island, Antarctica.
Resistant to norfloxacin,. Susceptible to amikacin, ampicillin, cefoperazone, cefuroxime, ciprofloxacin, co-trimoxazole, erythromycin,
chloramphenicol, kanamycin, lincomycin, lomefloxacin, nalidixic acid, nitrofurantoin, penicillin, roxithromycin, streptomycin,
tetracycline, tobramycin and vancomycin.

L-glycine, L-glutamic acid, L-histidine, and L-phenylalanine.

Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, indole production, beta-galactosidase, methyl red test, nitrate reduction, starch hydrolysis,
Tween 80 hydrolysis, Voges-Proskauer test, acid production from D-arabinose, D-glucose, D-galactose, lactose, D-mannose,
D-mannitol, D-rhamnose, D-ribose, and sucrose.
No utilization of D-cellobiose, glycerol, D-mannitol, L-alanine, L-leucine and tryptophan.
