Phylum Actinomycetota, Class Actinomycetes, Order Micrococcales, Family Micrococcaceae, Genus Psychromicrobium,
Psychromicrobium silvestre Schumann et al. 2017.
Gram-variable cells, 0.5-0.6 x 0.9-1.1 µm, exhibiting a rod-coccus cycle and occuring
in pairs as typical V-forms or in groups. Non-motile.
Colonies on R2A agar are creamy white, convex, shiny, with an entire margin and
produce slime; colony diameter is 1 mm after 4 days at 20 ºC. Flexirubin and
carotenoid pigments are absent. Grows on R2A agar, NA and TSA. Growth occurs in
R2A broth and on agar plates at 5-30 ºC (optimally at 20-30 ºC), at pH 6-9 (optimally  
at pH 6-7) and in the presence of 0-5% (w/v) NaCl (optimally in 0-3% NaCl). No
growth at 35 ºC. Aerobic and microaerophilic; no anaerobic growth.
Isolated from forest soil samples collected in South Tyrol  in the Italian Alps.

Positive results for alkaline phosphatase (weakly), acid phosphatase, catalase, esculin hydrolysis, esterase lipase (C8), gelatin
hydrolysis, beta-galactosidase, alpha- and beta-glucosidase, lipase (C14; weakly), leucine arylamidase, trypsin,
naphtholAS-BI-phosphohydrolase, alpha-mannosidase, pyrazinaminidase, and pyrridolyl arylamidase.
Can assimilate of lactose, D-glucose, D-mannose, D-mannitol, maltose, potassium gluconate, capric acid, malic acid, phenylacetic
acid (weakly) and trisodium citrate.

Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, amylase, cellulase, cystine arylamidase, DNase, alpha-chymotrypsin, alpha-fucosidase,
alpha-galactosidase, beta-glucuronidase, indole production, nitrate reduction, urease, valine arylamidase, and fermentation of
glucose.
No assimilation of chitin, L-arabinose and adipic acid.
