Gram-positive cocci, 0.6-0.9 µm in diameter, occurring singly or in pairs, tetrads or
packets. Non-motile. Endospores are not produced.
Colonies are creamy, with smooth surfaces in young colonies and rough surfaces in
old ones. Non-pigmented. Facultatively anaerobic. Grows on Luria-Bertani agar,
blood agar and trypticase soy agar. Optimum growth temperature is 30-37 °C. No
growth at 15 or 45 °C.
Isolated from a sludge sample collected from a foul water sewer in Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China.

Positive results for catalase, esculin hydrolysis, ester lipase C8 (weak), alpha-glucosidase, gelatin hydrolysis, nitrate reduction, acid
production from glucose, glycerol, maltose, mannose, ribose, sucrose, salicin and trehalose.
Negative results for alkaline phosphatase, esterase C4, alpha-galactosidase, beta-glucosidase, trypsin, urease, valine arylamidase
(weak), acid production from lactose, mannitol, raffinose, and sorbitol.
