Phylum Pseudomonadota (Proteobacteria), Class Gammaproteobacteria, Order Pasteurellales, Family Pasteurellaceae, Genus
Caviibacterium, Conservatibacter flavescens Adhikary et al. 2018, type species of the genus.
Synonym: Bisgaard taxon 7.
Gram-negative, pleomorphic rods. Non-motile.
Colonies on blood agar are approximately 1.0-1.5 mm in diameter, smooth and shiny,
opaque, circular and slightly raised with an entire margin and soft consistency and
yellow tinge after 24 h aerobic incubation at 37 ºC. Non-haemolytic on 5% bovine
blood agar. No requirement for X-factor (positive in porphyrin synthesis) or V-factor (no
NAD requirement). No growth on MacConkey medium. Growth with KCN is positive for
most strains.
Isolated from pharynx of guinea pigs.

Negative results for alkaline phosphatase, arginine dihydrolase, catalase (or weak), Simmon’s citrate, esculin hydrolysis, alpha-
fucosidase, gelatinase, beta-glucosidase, beta-glucuronidase, H2S production (TSI test ), lysine decarboxylase, methyl red test,
alpha-mannosidase, phenylalanine deaminase, Tween 20 and 80, urease, Voges-Proskauer test, beta-xylosidase, acid production
from: adonitol, amygdalin, arbutin, cellobiose, D(+) fucose, esculin, meso-erythritol, inulin, gentibiose, glycogen, lactose, maltose, D
(+) melezitose, mucate, salicin, D(-) sorbitol, L(-) sorbose, turanose, xylitol and L(-) xylose.
Variable results for indole production, acid production from: D(-) arabinose, glycerol, and L(+) rhamnose.
