Phylum Pseudomonadota (Proteobacteria), Class Gammaproteobacteria, Order Pasteurellales, Family Pasteurellaceae, Genus
Caviibacterium, Cricetibacter osteomyelitidis Christensen et al. 2014, type species of the genus.
Synonym: Bisgaard taxon 23.
Gram-negative, pleomorphic rods. Non-motile.
Colonies on blood agar have a diameter of 1.0-1.5 mm after 24 h of aerobic
incubation and 2-3 mm after 3 days of incubation at 37 ºC. Colonies are shiny,
regular, circular, yellowish in colour and non-haemolytic. Adherence to the
agar has not been observed. Porphyrin is synthesized. No requirement of X- or
V-factor. Pigment is not produced. Facultatively anaerobic. No growth on MacConkey
agar.
Isolated from osteomyelitis of European hamster.

Positive results for alkaline phosphatase, alanine aminopeptidase, indole production, methyl red test (weak), nitrate reduction,
oxidase, acid production from: D(-) or L(+) arabinose, D(+) arabitol, dulcitol, dextrin, D(-) fructose, D(+)glucose (usually with gas
production), D(+) galactose, glycerol (delayed), myo-inositol (delayed), D(-) mannitol, D(+) mannose, maltose, D(-) ribose, L(+)
rhamnose (delayed), D(-) sorbitol, sucrose and D(+) xylose.
Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, catalase, Simmons’ citrate, gelatinase, alpha-galactosidase, beta-glucuronidase, alpha-
and beta-glucosidase, H2S production (TSI), lysine decarboxylase, alpha-mannosidase, ornithine decarboxylase, phenylalanine
deaminase, Tween 20 and 80, urease, Voges-Proskauer test, beta-xylosidase, acid production from: adonitol, arbutin, amygdalin,
cellobiose, aesculin, i-erythritol, L(-) fucose, D(+) glycogen, gentiobiose, inulin, lactose (some strains are late positive), melezitose,
melibiose, raffinose (some strains are late positive), L(-) sorbose, starch, salicin, turanose, trehalose, L(-) xylose and xylitol.
Contradictory results for ONPG (beta-galactosidase).
