Gram-negative, short, regular rods, 0.5 x 1.5-1.7 µm, often filamentous forms.
Non-motile.
Colonies on chocolate agar incubated in air supplemented with 5 to 10% extra CO2
are highly convex, granular, yellowish, and opaque, 1.0-1.5 mm in diameter within 24
h. When incubated without extra CO
2, colonies are very small and interspersed with a
few larger colonies. Growth in broth may be granular, with heavy sediment on the
bottom of the tube. Non-haemolytic. X factor and V factor are not required. Facultatively
anaerobic.
Isolated from human conjunctivitis, wounds, bile, abdominal abscesses, and blood.
It is a commensal of the upper respiratory tract of humans, occasionally involved in human infections.

Positive results for beta-galactosidase (ONPG), proline arylamidase, phenylalanine arylamidase, acid production from glucose.

Negative results for catalase, indole production, ornithine decarboxylase, urease, acid production from: maltotriose, mannose, ribose
and xylose.

Variable results for acid production from: galactose, maltose, N-acetylglucosamine and sucrose.
