P. langaa changed to P. langaaensis - corrected by Trüper and De' Clari 1998.
Non-motile, Gram-negative, coccobacillary cells.
Nonhemolytic, 1.5 mm in diameter, smooth & grayish-white colonies. V-factor
independent growth. Can grow on MacConkey agar.
Isolated from the respiratory tract of chickens.
Strains are found in the respiratory tract of apparently healthy chickens.

Positive results for nitrates reduction, alkaline phosphatase, ONPG, acid production
from: mannitol, D(-) fructose, D(+) glucose (without gas), D(+) galactose, D(+)
mannose, sucrose and lactose.
Negative results for catalase, citrate (Simmons), gelatinase, H2S production (TSI), Voges-Proskauer test, alpha-glucosidase, urease,
arginine dehydrolase, lysine decarboxylase, ornithine decarboxylase, indole production, acid production from: glycerol, xylitol, L(+)
arabinose, D(-) arabinose, D(+) xylose, dulcitol, meso-inositol, D(-) sorbitol, L(-) fucose, L(+) rhamnose, L(-) sorbose, cellobiose,
maltose, D(+) melibiose, trehalose, raffinose, dextrin, inulin, esculin and salicin.
Oxidase activity is variable.
