Phylum Pseudomonadota (Proteobacteria), Class Gammaproteobacteria, Order Pasteurellales, Family Pasteurellaceae, Genus
Haemophilus, Haemophilus massiliensis Lo et al. 2017.
Gram-negative rods, 0.2-0.5 x 2.0-3.2 μm. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are 0.5-1 mm in diameter and non-hemolytic on 5% sheep blood agar
(Columbia). Growth occurs between 25 and 45 ºC, with optimal growth occurring at 37
ºC. Facultatively anaerobic, optimal growth was observed under aerobic and
microaerophilic conditions.
Isolated fromthe peritoneal fluid of a 44-year-old woman who suffered from pelvic peritonitis, Senegal.
Susceptible to penicillin, amoxicillin, amoxicillin/clavulanic acid, imipenem, gentamicin, ceftriaxone and doxycycline but resistant to
vancomycin, nitrofurantoin and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole.

Positive results for acid and alkaline phosphatase, catalase, leucine arylamidase, esterase, nitrate reduction,
naphthol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase, esculin, ferric citrate, oxidase and urease.
Can utilize (API 20 NE): D-fructose, D-glucose and D-xylose.
Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, alpha-chymotrypsin, cystine arylamidase, indole production, valine arylamidase, trypsin,
alpha- and beta-glucosidase, esterase-lipase, leucine arylamidase, alpha- and beta-galactosidase, beta-glucuronidase,
alpha-mannosidase, alpha-fucosidase and N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase.
No utilization (API 20 NE) of L-arabinose, D-maltose, D-mannose, D-mannitol, potassium gluconate and N-acetylglucosamine.
