Synonym: Bisgaard Taxon 40.
Gram-negativerods. No flagella or pili have been observed.
Colonies are beta-hemolytic, shiny, circular, and whitish-cream. Grows on 5% sheep
blood agar after 48 h of aerobic incubation at 42 ºC. No growth on MacConkey.
Isolated from brain, liver, heart, and spleen samples from common terns (Sterna hirundo).
Involved in mortality events of sea birds with evidence of septicemia.

Positive results for catalase, oxidase, acid production from: D-cellobiose, dextrin, D-galactose, D-glucose, D-maltose,
N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, N-acetyl-beta-D-mannosamine, N-
acetyl-neuraminic acid, D-mannose, D-glucose-6-PO4, D-fructose-6-PO4,
and acetoacetic acid.

Negative results for indole production, urease, acid production from: D-mannitol,
D-sorbitol (most strains), L-fucose, sucrose and
trehalose.

Variable results for acid production from D-mannose (most strains are positive).
