Gram-negative coccobacilli. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are non-haemolytic on bovine agar. After 48h growth on chocolate agar in a
candle jar at 35 ºC, pinpoint-sized, greyish colonies are observed. Enriched chocolate
agar results in enhanced growth with a colony size upto 2.5mm diameter. No pigment
production. No growth on KCN. Requires NAD (V-factor) for growth. Hemin (X-factor)
is not required for growth. No growth on MacConkey agar. Microaerophilic.
Isolated from kestrels (Falco tinnunculus).
Isolated from bronchopneumonia in a kestrel.
