Biberstenia, Bibersteinia trehalosi (Sneath and Stevens 1990) Blackall et al. 2007, type species of the genus.
Old synonym: Pasteurella trehalosi Sneath and Stevans, 1990.
Species incertae sedis; the species includes the biovar T of the former Pasteurella haemolytica.
Gram-negative small rods and coccobacilli.
Colonies are beta-hemolytic on sheep blood agar and V-factor independent.
Growth on MacConkey is positive.
Present in nasopharynx and tonsils (almonds) of sheep and goats.
Mastitis in sheep and septicaemia in lambs. Rarely human infections.

Positive results for nitrates reduction, oxidase, alkaline phosphatase, acid production
from: meso-inositol, mannitol, D(-) sorbitol, D(+) glucose (without gas), D(+) mannose,
maltose, sucrose (saccharose), trehalose, esculin and salicin.
Negative results for arginine dyhydrolase, catalase, citrate (Simmons), gelatinase, urease, lysine decarboxylase, ornithine
decarboxylase, ONPG, Voges-Proskauer, indole production, acid production from: inulin, L(+) arabinose, D(+) xylose, dulcitol, D(+)
galactose, lactose, D(+) melibiose, raffinose, and gas from D(+) glucose.
Acid production from cellobiose is variable.
