Phylum Pseudomonadota (Proteobacteria), Class Gammaproteobacteria, Order Pseudomonadales, Family Pseudomonadaceae,
Genus Azotobacter, Azotobacter bryophylli Liu et al. 2019.
Gram-negative, short rods, 0.6-0.8 x 1.0-2.0 µm, occuring singly or in pairs. Motile by
peritrichous flagella.
Colonies are cream-coloured, translucent, smooth and moist. Grows at 5-40 ºC
(optimally at 37 ºC), pH 5-8 (optimally at pH 7) and 0-2% NaCl. No pigment
production. Aerobic.
Isolated from leaves of Bryophyllum pinnatum growing at the South China Agricultural University. Nitrogen-fixing bacterium.
Resistant to spectinomycin, streptomycin, chloramphenicol, tetracycline, cefotaxime and carbenicillin. Sensitive to kanamycin,
gentamycin, neomycin and erythromycin.
Undetermined.
