Gram-negative rods, 0.7 x 2.4 µm. Motile by multiple polar flagella. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on nutrient agar medium are light cream, opaque, round and 1.0–2.0 mm
diameter after incubation at 28 ºC for 24 h. Fluorescent pigment is produced on King’
s B medium. Grows at temperature of  4-37 ºC (optimum 28-30 ºC), at pH values of
5.0-6.0 and in the presence of 0-4% (w/v) NaCl. Aerobic.
Isolated from symptomatic pepper foliage (Capsicum annuum) in Georgia, USA.
Plant pathogen isolated from seedlings displaying water-soaked, dark brown-to-black, necrotic lesions on pepper leaves.
Can induce a hypersensitive reaction on tobacco. Positive for potato rot activity.

Positive results for acid and alkaline phosphatase, catalase, beta-glucosidase, nitrate reduction to nitrite, oxidase and urease.
Can assimilate (API 20 NE): glucose, arabinose, mannose, mannitol, gluconate, caprate, malate and citrate.
Can utilize as sole carbon source (Biolog GEN III): alpha-D-glucose, D-mannose, D-mannitol, methyl pyruvate, gamma-amino-butyric
acid, D-fructose, D-arabitol, L-alanine, D-galactose, myo-inositol, D-gluconic acid, L-lactic acid, glycerol, L-aspartic acid, citric acid,
D-fucose, L-glutamic acid, glucuronamide, alpha-keto-glutaric acid, L-fucose, D-fructose-6-phosphate, mucic acid, D- and L-malic
acid, propionic acid, D-aspartic acid, L-pyroglutamic acid, quinic acid, acetic acid, inosine, L-serine and D-saccharic acid.


Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, esterase lipase (C8), gelatin hydrolysis, beta-galactosidase, indole production, lipase
(C14) and valine arylamidase.
No assimilation of: N-acetyl-glucosamine, maltose, adipate and phenylacetate.
No utilization of: gentibiose, Tween 40, D-sorbitol, L-galactonic acid and sucrose.
