Gram-negative rods, 0.6-1.1 x 1.7-3.7 µm. Motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are 1.0-1.5mm in diameter, round, glossy and beige after incubation at 28
ºC for 48h on TSA. Grows at temperature of  4-34 ºC (optimum 27-29 ºC), at pH values
of 6.0-8.0 and in the presence of 0-5.5% (w/v) NaCl. Does not produce pigments on
King A agar. Production of a fluorescent pigment on King B agar is variable.
Beta-haemolysis on Columbia agar with 5% sheep blood is negative. Aerobic.
Isolated from cream and skimmed milk concentrate.
Undetermined. Species might have a high potential for spoilage of milk and milk products.

Positive results for arginine dihydrolase, catalase, aesculin hydrolysis, gelatin hydrolysis, oxidase, proteolysis on skimmed milk agar
(casein hydrolysis) and lipolysis on tributyrin agar at both 6 and 28 ºC, Voges-Proskauer reaction, acid production from: D-arabitol,
cellobiose, D-fructose, D-fucose, D-galactose, D-glucose (negative in API 20 NE test), lactose, D-lyxose, D-mannitol, D-mannose,
melibiose, D-ribose, D-sorbitol, trehalose, D-xylose, erythritol, gentiobiose, glycerol, inositol, potassium-gluconate, L-arabinose,
L-rhamnose, methyl beta-D-xylopyranose, N-acetylglucosamine and xylitol.
Can utilize as sole carbon source: citrate, D-mannose, D-mannitol, N-acetyl-glucosamine, gluconate, capric acid, adipic acid, malic
acid and phenylacetate.

Negative results for beta-galactosidase, H
2S production, indole production, lysine decarboxylase, nitrate reduction, ornithine
decarboxylase, starch hydrolysis, tryptophan deaminase, acid production from: amygdalin, arbutin, D-adonitol, D-arabinose, maltose,
melezitose, raffinose, sucrose, D-tagatose, turanose, dulcitol, glycogen, urea, inulin, L-arabitol, L-fucose, L-sorbose, L-xylose, methyl
alpha-D-glucoside, methyl alpha-D-mannoside and salicin.
No utilization of: L-arabinose and maltose.

Variable results for urease.
