Cells are Gram-negative, aerobic, nonspore-forming, rods (0.56 x 1.5 μm), motile by a
single polar flagellum.
Colonies are smooth and circular, muddy white with a greyish central spot (1.5 mm in
diameter on Nutrient agar and 2.0 mm on Luria-Bertani agar after 72 hours incubation
at 37 ºC). Strictly aerobic, growth temperature 4-41 ºC.
Can grow on: Nutritive agar, Luria-Bertani agar, MacConkey agar.
Isolated from the fly ash dumping site of a thermal power plant in Delhi, India.

Has the capacity to degrade phenanthrene and citronellol.

Positive for catalase, DNase, oxidase, Tween 80 hydrolysis, nitrate reductase, urease, acid production from: glycerol, lactose,
mannitol, glucose, dextrin, sucrose, L-arabinose, D-fructose, D-galactose, xylose, D-trehalose, cellobiose & sorbitol.
Can assimilate: L-proline, o-cresol, allantoin, pyruvate, citrate, adonitol, D-glucose, D-mannitol, D-ribose, D-xylose, D-fructose,
L-arabinose, glycerol, toluene, liquid paraffin, pyridine, heptane, cystine, L-histidine, L-serine, sorbose, triton X-100, trehalose,
propionate, sorbitol and acetate.

Negative results for amylase, esculin hydrolysis, gelatin hydrolysis, lecithinase, acid formation from L-serine, sucrose, adonitol,
sorbose, Triton X-100, alpha-naphthol, inositol, rhamnose, trehalose, propionate, acetate, pyridine, heptane, cystine, L-histidine,
L-arabinose, glycerol & toluene.
No assimilation of inositol, pyrocatechal, aniline, para-nitrophenol, D-galactose & alpha-naphthol.
