Pseudomonas entomophila
Non-fermentative. Description is based mostly on API 20 NE and Biolog GN2 results.

Positive results for arginine dihydrolase, catalase, gelatin hydrolysis and oxidase.
Can utilize as sole carbon sources: potassium gluconate, capric acid, malic acid, trisodium citrate, N-acetyl-glucosamine,
phenylacetic acid, glycogen (weak), Tween 40, L-arabinose, D-arabitol, D-fructose, L-fucose (weak), D-glucose, D-mannitol,
D-mannose, mono-methyl-succinate, formic acid, alpha-hydroxy butyric acid, gamma-hydroxy butyric acid, p-hydroxy phenylacetic acid,
alpha-keto butyric acid, alpha-keto valeric acid, Tween 80, methyl pyruvate, acetic acid, cis-aconitic acid, citric acid, D-gluconic acid,
beta-hydroxy butyric acid, alpha-keto glutaric acid, D,L-lactic acid, propionic acid, succinic acid, bromo succinic acid, D- and L-alanine,
L-alanyl-glycine, L-asparagine, L-aspartic acid, L-glutamic acid, L-leucine, L-proline, L-serine, L-threonine, D,L-carnitine,
gamma-amino butytic acid and putrescine.

Negative results for indole production, glucose fermentation, hydrolysis of esculin, beta-galactosidase, nitrate reduction, and urease.
No utilization of malonate, arabinose, alpha-cyclodextrin, dextrin, adonitol, D-cellobiose, i-erythritol, D-melibiose,
alpha-methyl-D-glucoside, D-psicose, D-raffinose, L-rhamnose, D-sorbitol, D-trehalose, turanose, xylitol, D-galacturonic acid,
D-glucosaminic acid, D-glucuronic acid, itaconic acid, maltose, adipate, N-acetyl-D-galactosamine, D-galactose, gentiobiose,
m-inositol, alpha-D-lactose, lactulose, sucrose, D-galactonic acid lactone, sebacic acid, thymidine and glucose-1-phosphate.

Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-negative rods, 0.67-1.0 x 2.2 μm. Motile by means of one polar flagellum.
After 16 h incubation at 30 ºC on LB agar, colonies are circular, beige in colour, flat,
with regular edges and approximately 3-4 mm in diameter.  A fluorescent pigment is
produced on Pseudomonas agar F, but no pyocyanin is produced on Pseudomonas
agar P. Grows at 4-42 ºC (optimum at 30-37  ºC), at pH 5-9 and  in the presence of
0-6% (w/v) NaCl (optimum at 2-3%). Strictly aerobic.
Isolated from a female specimen of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster in Guadeloupe Island.
