Phylum Pseudomonadota (Proteobacteria), Class Gammaproteobacteria, Order Pseudomonadales, Family Pseudomonadaceae,
Genus Pseudomonas,
Pseudomonas extremorientalis Ivanova et al. 2002.
Gram-negative, 0.8-1 x 2.0-3.5 μm, motile rods, with a single polar flagellum. Non-
spore-forming. Does not accumulate poli-beta-hydroxybutyrate as intracellular carbon
reserve.
Colonies are hemolytic, round, 3-6 mm, circular, regular, convex, smooth. Fluorescent
pigment produced. Strictly aerobic. Growth temperature 4-35 ºC, optimal 25 ºC. No
growth at 42 ºC. Grows on Nutritive agar, Trypticase Soy Agar, Mueller-Hinton agar,
King’s A and B media. Tolerates up to 6% NaCl in the culture medium. Grows at pH
6.0-10.0, optimally at pH 7.0.
Isolated from a drinking water reservoir near Vladivostok City, Russia.
Susceptible to gentamicin, kanamycin, streptomycin and tetracycline. Resistant to ampicillin, benzylpenicillin, carbenicillin,
lincomycin and polymyxin.
Unknown. Not pathogenic to onion. Negative for potato soft rot.
