Gram-negative, straight rods, 0.4-0.5 x 1.8-2.0 um. Motile by a single polar flagellum.
Non-spore-forming. Poly-beta-hydroxybutyrate granules are not accumulated.
After 3 days on LB agar at 25 ºC, colonies are circular, convex and white in colour, and
about 1.5-2 mm in diameter. Cells also grow on MA and tryptic soy agar (TSA; Difco).
Growth occurs at 4-33 ºC (optimum, 25 ºC), at pH 6.5-9.1 (optimum, pH 7.5-8.1) and
in 0.5-8% w/v NaCl (optimum, 1-2 %). No fluorescent pigments are detected. Strictly
aerobic.
Isolated from a culture of the Antarctic green alga Pyramimonas gelidicola.
Sensitive to: chloramphenicol, gentamicin, kanamycin and polymyxin B. Resistant to ampicillin, cephalexin, erythromycin, mitomycin
C, nalidixic acid, penicillin G, streptomycin, tetracycline and vancomycin.
