Pseudomonas lactucae Sawada et al. 2021.
Gram-negative rods, 0.8-0.9 x 2.0-2.6 µm. Motile by one to three polar flagella.
Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on standard agar plates are pale yellow in colour, opaque, round with entire
to somewhat undulate margins, raised, smooth, glistening and usually around 1mm
in diameter after growth for 2 days at 27 ºC. No diffusible pigments are produced on
standard methods agar or King’s B plates. Fluorescent pigment is not produced.
Grows at 4-35 ºC, pH 6-8 and in the presence of 0-5%NaCl.
Isolated from rot lesions formed on the leaf of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L. var. capitata L.) in Japan.
Pathogenic to lettuce causing bacterial rot disease. Positive for potato soft rot test. Negative for  tobacco hypersensitive reaction.

Positive results for acid and alkaline phosphatase, arginine dihydrolase, aesculin hydrolysis, gelatin hydrolysis, levan formation from
sucrose, leucine arylamidase, nitrate reduction, oxidase, trypsin, acid production from sucrose. Weak reactions for esterase (C4),
esterase lipase (C8), valine arylamidase and naphthol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase.
Can assimilate (API 20NE): D-glucose, L-arabinose, D-mannose, D-mannitol, N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, potassium gluconate, capric
acid, malic acid and trisodium citrate.
Can utilize as sole carbon source (Biolog GEN III): trehalose, sucrose, N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, alpha-D-glucose, D-mannose, D-
fructose, D-galactose, D-fucose, inosine, D-sorbitol, D-mannitol, D-arabitol, myo-inositol, glycerol, glycyl-L-proline, L-alanine, L-
arginine, L-aspartic acid, L-glutamic acid, L-histidine, L-pyroglutamic acid, L-serine, D-galacturonic acid, L-galactonic acid lactone,
D-gluconic acid, D-glucuronic acid, glucuronamide, mucic acid, quinic acid, D-saccharic acid, p‐hydroxyphenylacetic acid, L-lactic
acid, citric acid, alpha-ketoglutaric acid, L-malic acid, gamma-aminobutyric acid, DL-beta-hydroxybutyric acid, propionic acid, acetic
acid and formic acid.

Negative results for cystine arylamidase, alpha-chymotrypsin, alpha-fucosidase, alpha- and beta-galactosidase, beta-glucuronidase,
alpha- and beta-glucosidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, lipase (C14), alpha-mannosidase, indole production, urease, acid
production from glucose.
No  assimilation of: maltose, adipic acid and phenylacetic acid.
No utilization of: dextrin, maltose, cellobiose, gentiobiose, turanose, stachyose, raffinose, lactose, melibiose, methyl beta-D-
glucoside, D-salicin, N-acetyl-beta-D-mannosamine, N-acetyl-D-galactosamine, N-acetyl neuraminic acid, 3-methyl glucose,
L-rhamnose, D-glucose-6-phosphate, D-aspartic acid, gelatin, D-lactic acid methyl ester, Tween 40 and acetoacetic acid.
