Gram-negative rods, 0.8-1.1 x 1.6-2.6 µm. Motile by 1-2 polar flagella.
Non-spore-forming.
Colonies on plate count agar are pale yellow to light cream in colour, opaque, round
with entire margins, raised, smooth, glistening and usually around 1-1.5 mm in
diameter after 2 daysincubation at 27 ºC. Growth occurs at 4-35 ºC, in the presence of
0-6% (w/v) NaCl and at pH 5-8. Positive for fluorescent pigment production on King’s
B medium. No diffusible pigments are produced when cultured on standard methods
agar plates. Aerobic.
Isolated from rot lesions of parsley (Petroselinum crispum) sampled in Miyagi, Japan.
Causes bacterial rot of parsley. Pathogenic toward lettuce. Positive for potato soft rot, but negative for tobacco hypersensitive reaction.
