Gram-positive cocci, 0.8-1.2 μm, nonmotile, nonsporing.
S-type, white, rounded colonies, 5-8 mm in diameter. Facultatively anaerobic, 37 ºC
(30-32 ºC optimal growth). Weak growth at 15 and 45 ºC. Weakly hemolytic; no
hemolysins detected. Grows in 10% NaCl in 24 hours and in 15% NaCl in 72 hours.
Grow on media: Trypticase Soy Agar ± 5% sheep blood, Chapman & P-agar.
Isolated from dogs and cats. Lysostaphin-sensitive. Novobiocin- and bacitracin-susceptible.
Feline urinary tract pathogen, also can cause abscesses, dermatitis and conjunctivitis.

Positive results for nitrate reduction, alkaline phosphatase, urease, arginine dihydrolase, beta-galactosidase, oxidase, catalase,
acetoin production,  acid production from: glucose, glycerol, lactose, mannose and trehalose.

Negative results oxidase, acetoin production, hyaluronidase, coagulase-rabbit plasma, clumping factor, heat-stable nuclease,
beta-glucosidase, beta-glucuronidase, acid production from: xylitol,  raffinose, xylose, arabinose, cellobiose, salicin,  melezitose and
cellobiose.

Variable results for acid production from mannitol, ribose, sucrose and galactose.
