Gram-positive cocci, 0.9 μm in diameter, occuring singly, in pairs, tetrads or clumps.
Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are orange, circular, opaque and approximately 1.0 mm in diameter after 48
hours at 30 ºC. Aerobic. Moderately halophilic; Growth occurs in media containing
1-25% NaCl; optimum 10% NaCl. Grows at 4-45 ºC; optimal growth at 30 ºC. Grows
in pH 7.0-11.0; optimum pH 8.0-9.0.
Isolated from a desert soil sample collected from Egypt.

Positive results for arginine dihydrolase, aesculin hydrolysis, catalase, beta-glucosidase, lysine decarboxylase, lipase, nitrate
reduction, oxidase, ornithine decarboxylase, Tween 20 hydrolysis, acid production from: N-acetylglucosamine, D-glucose, sucrose,
malonate and maltose.
Negative results for N-acetylglucosaminidase, ammonia production, casein hydrolysis, beta-glucuronidase, alpha- and
beta-galactosidase, gelatin liquefaction, growth on cellulose, H2S production, indole production, methyl red test, milk peptonization
and coagulation, melanin production, starch hydrolysis, Tween 80 hydrolysis Voges-Proskauer test, urease, acid production from:
fructose and galactose.
