Gram-positive cocci, nonmotile, nonsporing.
Colonies are opaque, yellow, sometimes with irregular margins. Facultatively
anaerobic – grow better aerobically, 37 ºC. Media: Trypticase Soy Yeast extract Agar ±
5% sheep blood, Mueller-Hinton agar, P agar.
Isolated from human clinical samples (urine), animals - calf (latin “vitulus”), horse, fish and meat products.
Resistant to novobiocin.
Unknown; potential nosocomial infections & food contaminant.
