Gram-positive cocci, short chains.
Alpha-hemolytic colonies, round, 1 mm in diameter. Grow at 37.0 ºC, no growth at 10
or 45 ºC. No growth at pH 9.6 or in 6.5% NaCl medium.
Grows on complex media (Trypticase soy agar with defibrinated sheep blood).
Isolated from clinical samples from pigs.
Isolated from swine lungs and kidney (2 strains). May be a cause of pneumonia and septicemia.

Description is based on API 50 CH and API Rapid ID 32 Strep tests results.
Positive results for alpha-galactosidase, beta-galactosidase, acid phosphatase, leucine arylamidase, beta- glucuronidase,
alanine-phenylalanine-proline arylamidase, glycyl-tryptophane arylamidase, acid production from: D-fructose, D-glucose, D-lactose,
maltose, raffinose, sacharose, and trehalose.
Negative results for: arginine dihydrolase, hippurate, urease, acetoin production, phosphatase alkaline,
N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, alpha-glucosidase, alpha-mannosidase, alpha-fucosidase, esterase (C4), esterase lipase (C8),
lipase (C14), valine arylamidase, cystine arylamidase, trypsine, alpha-chymotrypsine, beta-glucosidase, beta-mannosidase,
pyroglutamic acid arylamidase, acid production from: 2-ketogluconate, amygdalin, arbutin, cellobiose, cyclodextrin, D-adonitol,
D-arabinose, D-arabitol, D-fucose, D-lyxose, D-mannitol, D-mannose, D-ribose, dulcitol, erythritol, esculin, gentiobiose, glycerol,
glycogen, inositol, inulin, L-arabinose, L-arabitol, L-fucose, L-rhamnose, L-sorbose, L-xylose, melezitose, melibiose, methyl
alpha-D-mannopyranoside, methyl beta-D-glucopyranoside, N-acetylglucosamine, pullulan, sorbitol, starch, tagatose, turanose, and
xylitol.
Variable results for acid production from: D-galactose and D-xylose. 2-keto-gluconate and salicin fermentation is delayed.
