Gram-negative, straight rods motile by 3-12 polar flagella (monotrichous flagella);
presenting lateral flagella on solid media, swarming on solid media.
Can grow in nutrient broth with: 1% and 6% NaCl. No growth in 0%, 8%, 10% and
12% NaCl. Growth occurs at 30-40 ºC. No growth at 4 ºC.
Facultative anaerobe.
Occurs in human clinical specimens (soft tissue infections) and in the marine environment.
Associated with wound, ear and eye infections. Produce Whitespot disease at Kuruma prawns, tiger prawns.

Voges-Proskauer (1% NaCl), nitrate reduced to nitrite, oxidase, lysine (1% NaCl),
gelatin hydrolysis (1% NaCl, 22 ºC), acid production from D-glucose, maltose, D-
mannitol, D-mannose, sucrose and trehalose are positive.
Citrate (Simmons), H2S on TSI, urea hydrolysis, esculin hydrolysis, ONPG test, phenylalanine deaminase, arginine (1% NaCl), gas
production from D-glucose, acid production from D-adonitol, L-arabinose, D-arabitol, cellobiose, dulcitol, myo-inositol, lactose,
melibiose, raffinose, L-rhamnose, salicin, D-sorbitol and D-xylose are negative.
Indole (Heart Infusion Broth, 1%N aCl), lipase, methyl red (1% NaCl), ornithine (1% NaCl), acid production from D-galactose and
glycerol are variable.
