Gram-negative straight  rods, motile. Presents lateral flagella on solid media, no
swarming on solid media.
Can grow in nutrient broth with: 1%, 6% & 8% (variable) NaCl. No growth in 0%, 10%
and 12% NaCl. Growth occurs at 30and 35 ºC. No growth at 4 or 40 ºC.
Marine medium. Sensible to O/129 vibriostatic agent (150 µg).

Indole (Heart Infusion Broth, 1% NaCl), lysine (1% NaCl), nitrate reduction to nitrite,
oxidase, lipase, gelatin hydrolysis (1% NaCl, 22 ºC), acid production from D-glucose,
cellobiose, maltose, D-mannose and trehalose are positive.

Voges-Proskauer (1% NaCl), arginine (1% NaCl), ornithine (1% NaCl), gas from D-glucose, acid production from D-adonitol,
L-arabinose, D-arabitol, dulcitol, D-galactose, myo-inositol, lactose, melibiose, raffinose, L-rhamnose, salicin, D-sorbitol, sucrose
and D-xylose are negative.

Acid production from D-mannitol is variable.
