Gram-negative, straight to slightly curved rods, 0.9 x 1.0-2.0 µm, motile.
Colonies on TSA with 1.5% NaCl  are smooth, white, non-swarming, with
exo-polysaccharide production within 2 days at 28 ºC. No growth in TCBS. Facultative
anaerobe. Can grow in nutrient broth with: 1 to 5% NaCl (1-2% optimum). Growth
occurs at  20 to 37 ºC (28 ºC optimum). No growth at  4 or 45 ºC.
Isolated from a wild rice (Porteresia coarctata) collected from Pichavaram mangroves, India.
Resistant to O/129 vibriostatic agent.

Positive results for oxidase, catalase, Voges-Proskauer test, aesculin hydrolysis, acid
production from: D-glucose (with gas), mannitol, rhamnose, sucrose, lactose, maltose,
fructose, cellobiose, galactose, xylose and salicin.
Can utilize as sole carbon source: cellobiose, lactose, sucrose, mannitol, salicin,
rhamnose, xylose, fructose, glucose, maltose, mannitol, citrate, L-serine & L-proline.

Negative results for nitrate reduction, ONPG, caseinase, amylase, H
2S production, urease, lysine decarboxylase, ornithine
decarboxylase, arginine dihydrolase, indole, acid production from: sorbitol, inositol, melibiose, trehalose, dulcitol, raffinose, sorbose,
inulin, glycerol and adonitol.
No utilization of: inulin, trehalose, inositol, dulcitol, arabinose, raffinose, sorbitol, mannose, L-alanine, L-choline, L-ornithine,
L-arginine, L-lysine, L-valine, L-methionine and L-threonine.
