Gram-negative, curved rods, 1.8 - 2.4 x 0.7-0.8 µm, motile  by  means of a single polar,
sheathed flagellum (in liquid media).
Colonies on agar media (peptone/yeast extract glucose agar Difco) are red, circular &
not swarming. Nonluminescent. The red pigment is prodigiosin.
Can grow in nutrient broth with: 1 to 10% NaCl. No growth in 0% NaCl. Growth occurs
at  20-40 ºC (optimum 25-30 ºC. No growth at 4 or 45 ºC. pH 7.0 optimum.
Facultatively anaerobic. Mesophilic.
Isolated from a sea-water sample collected in the shallow coastal region of Keelung, Taiwan. Resistant to the vibriostatic agent
O/129. Resistant to Cephalothin, Clindamycin, Lincomycin, Oxacillin and Vancomycin.

Positive results for catalase, lipase, nitrate reduction, gelatinase,  acid production from: sucrose, D-glucose (with gas production),
mannitol, cellobiose, galactose, lactose, mannose, xylose and salicin.
Can utilize as sole carboun source: D-arabinose, cellobiose, galactose, glucose, lactose, mannose, melibiose, sucrose, xylose,
mannitol, acetate, citrate, fumarate, pyruvate, L-aspartate, L-glutamate and L-glycine.

Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, lysine decarboxylase, ornithine decarboxylase, indole, oxidase, agarase, caseinase, acid
production from: trehalose, inositol and dulcitol.
No utilization of:adonitol, dulcitol, inositol, sorbitol, DL-malate, malonate, tartrate, L-alanine, L-arginine, L-lysine, L-ornithine, trehalose
and L-threonine.
